First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association Uses Westbrook Fortis to Securely Back Up Critical Financial Documents

Fraternal benefit society reduces risk of lost documents and data while improving accuracy in accounting systems

BRANFORD, CT – July 9, 2009 — Westbrook Technologies, developer of Fortis® enterprise content management (ECM) software, today announced that First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association (FCSLA), a fraternal benefit society, has implemented Fortis primarily as a back-up system for their paper documents, including insurance applications and certificates. FCSLA provides licensed financial products to 85,000 members in 46 states.

In addition, they are using Fortis to link documents to records in FCSLA’s policy management and accounting systems, and efficiently retrieve them after they’ve been archived. The organization’s main office can now share information more effectively with its branches as well.

“Instead of looking in five or six different places, everything I want to know about an account is at my fingertips,” said FCSLA System Manager Paula Dalpiaz. “If there’s a question about a change we made, it’s easy to retrieve the document that authorized it. Currently FCSLA is working toward becoming licensed in all 50 states. We will have additional regulatory requirements to meet, and Fortis will help with that.”

“In researching the top recommended document management solutions, Fortis stood out as the most affordable yet most easily customizable,” said Andy Mason, president of Mason Works, technical consultant to FCSLA. “The software is based on an open architecture, which made it easy to integrate with other systems that FCSLA was already using.”

The Fortis implementation has reduced the risk of lost data in accounts payable and improved the accuracy of check capture. “Before implementing Fortis, we were using another software product that failed about 30% of the time,” said Mason. “We’ve processed more than 250,000 checks in the past year with Fortis with 100% accuracy -- not a single one of them did not import.”

“Fortis helps insurance companies and other financial institutions to provide better customer service and increase efficiencies with a paperless workflow process,” said Einar Haukeland, president and CEO at Westbrook. “Fortis also secures private information, and its 24x7 backup on files meets disaster recovery standards and state regulations.”
