Westbrook Introduces Fortis 2DCode for Mapping Two-Dimensional Barcode Data into Document Repository

Software option helps organizations eliminate data entry, achieve higher accuracy and improve customer service

Branford, CT – June 12, 2009 — Westbrook® Technologies, developer of Fortis® enterprise content management (EDM) software, today announced the availability of Fortis 2DCode, a software option that easily transfers data stored in two-dimensional (2D) barcodes into the Fortis document repository by using a barcode scanner. This eliminates error-prone manual data entry, increases productivity and improves customer service.

Increasingly, 2D barcodes are being used in production, tracking and maintenance processes across all industries. Because 2D barcodes offer higher data capacity in a smaller space, their use is expanding rapidly. Common uses include warehouse logistics, inventory control, pharmaceutical distribution and in hospitals for medical records and on patient wristbands.

Hospice Pharmacia, a division of excelleRx and a pioneer in medication management for hospice and specialty disease markets, will use Fortis 2DCode to expedite prescription fulfillment. “With Fortis 2DCode, shipping information will be scanned, indexed and stored in Fortis along with the related prescription invoice,” said Mark Robinson, senior business applications engineer at Hospice Pharmacia. “If our customer service department gets a call about whether a shipment has been delivered, they can link directly to the FedEx Web site, for example, to check the status and provide an immediate update.”

“Since data is encoded in the horizontal and vertical dimensions of 2D barcodes, they can hold more data without increasing their size significantly,” said Jonathan Langdon, director of Professional Services for Westbrook Technologies. “Fortis 2DCode enables organizations to scan this information directly into Fortis, eliminating time-consuming, error-prone data entry and creating a link to other documents in Fortis related to a particular transaction.”

With the Fortis 2DCode option, users can:

  • Scan any 2D barcode into Fortis
  • Use 2D barcode data to automatically index Fortis documents
  • Use a built-in wizard to easily map 2D barcode data with Fortis fields
  • Integrate with FedEx and UPS tracking Web sites
