  Document Capture	Fortis uses a database to organize documents that are brought in, or captured, to the document management system. Paper documents are often scanned, while electronic files are often imported directly into the system. Fortis makes it easy to capture documents and data into the system. With the ability to scan, fax or import documents and data into the system, organizations can be sure all critical information is securely stored and properly managed. Fortis users can capture a wide range of electronic content, including Word or Excel documents, HTML, black/white or color images, and more.
  Web Access	Westbrook Fortis Web™ extends the reach of Fortis document management software to a Web browser interface so that users can easily access and work with the documents stored in Fortis databases - anytime, anywhere they have an Internet connection. Fortis Web provides secure and immediate access to documents over the Internet or an intranet while eliminating the need for data conversion, publishing and relocation. Its flexible and customizable interface can adapt to any e-business need. Fortis Web makes document management easier to use and more universally available. Users can search, import, edit, annotate and delete documents right from their browsers. Collaborative computing has never been so easy. Search, find, view and use.
  Microsoft Office Integration	Users are able to automatically capture Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint files from within the Office application directly to Fortis. This improves the user's productivity by automating the capture of data and eliminating the need to switch between applications.
  Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Bar Code Recognition (BCR) and Image Enhance	Fortis provides several capture features to improve document quality, aid in data capture, and improve efficiency.
  Document Indexing and Storing	Content that is captured to Fortis is identified with associated index data so that it can be easily stored, retrieved and managed. The indexing process is essential to how users search for and retrieve information. Westbrook Fortis' sophisticated database technology allows documents to be indexed, or described with keywords, so that users are able to find important documents quickly.
  Full Text and Index Search	Fortis lets users define and perform queries to retrieve documents by searching the index data, by searching the text contents (with Full Text Search) of documents, by searching the text content of annotations or by performing a combined search.
  Desktop Search	With Fortis QuickFind, users can search for documents right from their desktops
  Document Viewing and Editing	The Fortis Document Viewer provides complete functionality for accessing and viewing all types of documents. With an intuitive interface, users can easily view, annotate, edit and index documents. Document Alert is an electronic notification system that provides both visual and audio alerts anytime a document is scanned, faxed, forwarded or imported into a user’s Fortis In Basket. The feature is displayed as a desktop icon in the Windows tray and provides a shortcut to launch Fortis.
  Document Versioning	Fortis’ versioning feature protects a document from simultaneous revisions. With versioning, users can maintain multiple versions of a document. Modifications to a document are controlled by check out and check in procedures.
  Annotation tools	Users easily collaborate using powerful annotation tools. Users can add notes, stamps, or highlight a specific area of a document so that others know what’s been done with the document or the next steps needed in the process.
  User Access Management and Control	The Fortis system’s security capabilities provide a powerful yet flexible blend of user access management and control for any Fortis installation. This security is provided by assigning Fortis users a password and database access and by varying their functional and feature access permissions. With multiple levels of permissions, you can be assured your documents are protected from unauthorized access and alteration. The LDAP Support option allows organizations to authenticate Fortis users against an LDAP directory server. An LDAP directory server allows organizations to store information for system authentication, such as usernames and passwords, so that a single list of authorized users can be used across multiple applications. Users accessing Fortis with LDAP enabled are not prompted to enter a username or password.
  Audit User Activity	Fortis Audit Trail allows administrators to set up an audit log so that Fortis tracks a variety of user activities performed on documents including indexing, modifying, deleting, viewing, faxing, forwarding, emailing and printing.
  Extensibility	A full suite of options are available to extend the powerful capabilities of Fortis to include workflow, enterprise application integration and more.
